Riddoch's inaugural new vintage release including an international trophy winner Cabernet Sauvignon hits shelves

The highly-anticipated vintage release from the Riddoch Coonawarra 2023 Vintage
Collection will be available from the 29th of June, featuring the Pastoralist Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 ($39.99), awarded both the Australian and International Cabernet Sauvignon Trophy at the International Wine Challenge 2023, joined by four wines from Riddoch’s esteemed award-winning collections.

Expressive of the rich and distinct viticultural heritage of the Coonawarra region in South Australia, Riddoch also introduces a new flagship range 2019 The Author Cabernet Sauvignon and 2019 The Author Shiraz, recently awarded platinum at the Decanter World Wine Awards, and 2021 The Winegrower Shiraz and 2021 The Representative Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot, both awarded gold at the Limestone Coast Wine Show (2021).

With an esteemed history, Riddoch pays homage to the ‘Father of the Coonawarra”, John Riddoch, known for establishing it as one of the greatest wine regions. The region is ideal for the production of wine, with rich red soils atop ancient limestone, and vast, flat plains that allow for consistent growing
conditions.

The award-winning range was crafted by Riddoch Coonawarra’s Chief Winemaker Tim Heath and
Winemaker Matt Reimann who are proud to continue this legacy and see Riddoch add more wins to its globally-acclaimed accolades, such as the Jimmy Watson Trophy in 1987 for its vintage 1986 Cabernet
Shiraz.

“We are excited to introduce the first annual release of our Riddoch Coonawarra Collection that marks the launch of our new tier, “The Author” range from the 2019 vintage, as well as our ‘Vocation Series’ range from the 2021 vintage in Coonawarra,” says Tim Heath.

“To see our Riddoch ‘Pastoralist’ Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 awarded the International Cabernet Sauvignon Trophy at the IWC is truly an honour and a testament to the hard work and dedication put into every bottle,” adds Matt Reimann.

The 2021 season delivered some of the finest growing conditions the pair had witnessed in their history with Riddoch. The Coonawarra region is known for its maritime cooler climate and contrast in temperatures during the day and night, which allowed for ideal and longer ripening conditions which help the grapes develop fresher and distinctive flavours. The 2019 vintage season also produced wines of an excellent pedigree. Red wine varietals were harvested through cool and dry conditions, perfect for ripening, allowing full flavour development and optimal sugar levels.

The wine awarded ‘best Cabernet Sauvignon in the world’, The Pastoralist Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 represents the finest expression of the vintage, offering a captivating experience for wine enthusiasts worldwide. Its dark magenta colour, lifted spice, sweet oak aromatics, and intense dark fruit flavours make it an unparalleled choice. Recent accolades include the gold medal at 2023 The Global Cabernet Sauvignon Masters, the gold medal at the 2023 International Wine Challenge (96 points), as well as the Australian Cabernet Sauvignon and International Cabernet Sauvignon winner at the 2023 International Wine Challenge.
