Turo launches Turo Monthly as Australians rethink car ownership costs
Car rental marketplace, Turo, has launched Turo Monthly, a flexible alternative to leasing and traditional car ownership, as Australians look for lower-commitment options amid ongoing cost-of-living pressures.
The new offering gives guests savings of at least 20% on bookings over one month, with discounts of up to 45%+, depending on the host and trip duration. Guests pay in monthly instalments, view all-inclusive pricing upfront, and can extend or shorten bookings as their needs change, without being locked into the long-term commitments often associated with leasing, financing or owning a car.
“Car ownership is becoming more expensive and less practical for many people,” says Andre Haddad, Chief Executive Officer of Turo, who is in Australia for the launch. “We’re seeing a shift toward access – people want the benefits of having a car without the long-term cost and commitment. With the high cost of keeping a car on the road in Australia – from registration and insurance to ongoing maintenance – it’s a natural fit for our model.”
Since launching in the US in October 2025, trips lasting 90 days or longer have continued to be Turo’s fastest-growing booking segment, with monthly year-on-year growth remaining in the triple digits from launch to date, highlighting the strong demand for more flexible long-term car access.
“The maths of owning a 2-tonne asset that sits idle in a driveway for 22 hours a day just doesn’t add up anymore. By paying only for the car they’re actually using, people can free up a significant part of their household budget without sacrificing mobility,” says Rob Chan, Managing Director of Turo Australia.
“Turo Monthly isn’t only an alternative to car ownership and leasing, it’s also the perfect product for people in town for a short-term stay, those wanting to do an extended test-drive for a specific model before they buy, and guests who value the flexibility to switch cars as their needs change.”
Guests can browse monthly rentals directly through the Turo platform, where discounted long-term pricing is displayed alongside the standard daily rate for easy comparison.
