Novotel Sydney City Centre unveils the future of
hospitality through $20 million refurbishment

An Australian-first, where sustainability is built into the DNA of the hotel’s design philosophy.

Redefining family-friendly accommodation as sophisticated and flexible.

A city hotel that echoes nature, and where all spaces elevate guest experiences.

(SYDNEY, Australia – 27 November 2023): Novotel Sydney City Centre, operated by world-leading hospitality group, Accor, today announces the completion of an immense $20 million refurbishment, marking a new era in design, sustainability, and incredible guest amenities.

MINDFULLY DESIGNED IN PARIS

The recently transformed 283-room hotel located on York Street is the first Australian Novotel hotel to present an innovative room from Novotel’s designers in Paris called ‘Hypothesis’, which centres around the ethos ofcreating a hotel with less waste – environmental, of course, but also decreasing wasted space and time. This innovative design philosophy creates rooms and public spaces that move with guests, championing a new style of hospitality that ensures optimum stay experiences.

There is an echo of nature within the interior design concept, curated by Australian design studio Dezign, seamlessly flowing through the new environment. All 22 floors of the re-imagined Mercure Sydney Wynyard present mood-lit hallways with earthy carpets and wood detail panels to lead guests to spectacular and unexpected rooms and suites. With live greenery in every room, emerald carpets in the lobby, and timber finishes, bespoke joinery in rooms and stone accents, showcasing the hotel’s alleviation in a contemporary way.

All rooms boast natural lighting and scenic views of Sydney’s world-famous CBD, with key suites presenting partial water views of Sydney Harbour, and balcony rooms and suites enjoy vistas of Wynyard Park. Located on the two highest floors, levels 21 and 22, Superior One Bedroom Suites offer a spacious 42m2 modern oasis, with plush bedding, and a wet bar compacted with a microwave and a fridge. Superior King Rooms with Balcony offer 12 m2 deep entertaining terraces, creating a unique perspective for guests to take in the outdoors, amidst the city.

“We want guests to achieve the balance they seek during their stay. Room furnishings are flexible allowing guests to customise their stays. We have created an environment that’s ideal for corporate travellers, families and couples. This level of dynamism in design will allow guests to truly create a home away from home, and an office away from the office,” says Kim Stredder, General Manager of Novotel Sydney City Centre.

NESTLED IN THE HEART OF SYDNEY

As part of one of the largest hotel portfolio management deals, global fund manager Salter Brothers, alongside world-leading hospitality group Accor, have together delivered an extensive transformation of the property in a highly sought-after central city location.

Paul Salter, Managing Director of Salter Brothers commented, “We’re delighted to elevate this hotel under the Novotel brand. Novotel resonates so well across the globe and is an instantly recognisable name in the midscale hotel space. I’m so proud of our team and what they’ve achieved with this property.”

“The well-situated location of the hotel, in the busy and central Sydney CBD, enables guests to enjoy high street shopping, Circular Quay, the Opera House, Barangaroo, and some of Australia’s most renowned restaurants and bars,” he concluded.

CUTTING-EDGE TECHNOLOGY AND SUSTAINABILITY INTEGRATION

The integrated hotel embraces modern technology with complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi, in-room digital compendiums and QR codes for access to hotel services and amenities, such as room service from the hotel’s restaurant and bar. Chromecast TVs can be found in all rooms allowing guests to stream their own content seamlessly, with Balcony and Suite rooms featuring an impressive 75-inch TV.

Self-check-in kiosk, a first for the Novotel brand in NSW, acknowledges corporate guests seeking easy access to Australia’s centre for commerce located all around the hotel and provides a quick and efficient process to make stays seamless.

Sustainability is a key focus with the removal of single-use plastics, the introduction of Purezza still and sparkling water taps in the bar, effective, sustainably-minded, natural amenities by Deep Nature and recycling bins in all rooms. The hotel’s commitment to the environment extends to double-glazed windows for improved insulation and an ongoing food waste programme.

FAMILY-FRIENDLY MEETS SOPHISTICATION

With a historical, family-focused philosophy, centred around comfort and functionality, the new Novotel Sydney City Centre combines Novotel’s original ethos with a new essence of style and sophistication.

In its dedication to providing family-friendly accommodation, children up to the age of 16 stay for free when sharing a room with their parents and 33 rooms are interconnecting with King and Double Beds, making this option ideal for families. The hotel has also developed a special children’s menu, and toys are available for younger guests seeking to be entertained.

“Novotel is passionate about guests feeling relaxed during their Novotel experience, which includes not rushing the morning of check-out. That’s why on Sunday a late 5 pm check-out is available for guests, which we know is a hit with families and tourists exploring the city or corporate travellers who need to continue working before an evening flight,” adds Kim Stredder, General Manager of Novotel Sydney City Centre.
